With a very similar landscape to the South Luangwa, the North Luangwa has equally rich game and birdlife.
The small Mwaleshi River runs through the park, with clear shallow waters and low banks, perfect for walking along.
Wildlife of North Luangwa National Park
Game gravitates toward the river, particularly in the dry season, when it’s common to see buffalo, lion and hyena in healthy numbers by the water. There are some particularly pretty dambos covered in brilliant Nile cabbage, with a hippo or two only visible by their flickering ears.
With virtually no roads, the North Luangwa is perfect walking country.
A short flight from the South Luangwa, we recommend tagging it on to the end of a safari there.
