Photos of Kilindi
Rooms
Accommodation consists of white domed pavilions dotted around the hillside, each connected by stone pathways between luscious gardens of indigenous plants. Each pavilion has its own private garden, a cool spacious bathroom and huge bedroom with sunlight filtering through the blue glass skylight. Large wooden doors open onto a stone patio, where you'll find your own private plunge pool.
Location
Located in a gorgeous bay on the northwest coast of the main island of Unguja, Zanzibar, Kilindi puts you in the perfect spot to enjoy deep sea fishing and sunset cruises aboard wooden sailing dhows. The lodge is very private, and the only other people you'll see are the fishermen who bring in the catch of the day for the restaurant menu.
Food and drink
The restaurant is an important part of the Kilindi experience, with guests expected to dress smartly for dinner. You can dine privately anywhere you choose; on your villa patio or perhaps a romantic setting on the beach. In the restaurant, chandeliers hang over colonial-style furnishings, and there are leather sofas on which to relax in the lounge area below. There's also a roof terrace, which provides the perfect place for a pre- or post-dinner drink.
Families
A small number of the pavilions have two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, allowing for families with two children to stay together.
Honeymooners
The luxurious and private accommodation, along with the property's romantic setting, makes this an excellent option for couples on their honeymoon or who are celebrating an anniversary.
Facilities and activities
A large and very pretty infinity pool overlooks the sea and a private beach. Guests can also enjoy some relaxation in the peaceful spa, which has two treatment rooms and a hammam area with double bath and steam room. Treatments here use local oils and traditional techniques to help soothe away the cares of everyday life.
Environmental and social responsibility
A portion of the proceeds of the lodge go to the local village, and the villagers bring their dhow boats to the shore to provide fresh fish and seafood to Kilindi's restaurant. The hotel prides itself on being ‘locally eco’, using solar energy and harvesting rainwater from the domes of the pavilions, which is then recycled using a state-of-the-art water treatment and recycling plant for reuse in toilets and gardens.
