Banff Aspen Lodge

Banff Aspen Lodge

Banff, Canada

Enjoying a central location on Banff’s main street, Banff Aspen Lodge’s wood-fronted balconies and outdoor hot tubs complete with outdoor fireplace give it the feel of a traditional mountain lodge. Inside, however, neutral brown and cream tones, open and airy rooms and modern facilities bring the property into the 21st century.

A variety of different room types and flexible bed configurations means guests can be accommodated comfortably. In most cases, rooms come with a balcony or patio area with mountain views, and each is designed in a simple yet welcoming way.

A full breakfast buffet is included in your stay, and the Whitebark Cafe serves tea, coffee and pastries. There’s also a steam room and sauna, as well as complimentary parking.

OUR OPINION:

This hotel has an excellent location in the heart of Banff, close to its many shops and restaurants. We recommend having a soak in the outdoor hot tubs to enjoy the full mountain lodge experience.

Rooms

Rooms are spread across three floors and each includes Wi-Fi access, a TV, safe, tea and coffee facilities, and a mini fridge. With the exception of the smaller economy rooms, which are located on the ground floor, all have a private patio or balcony.

The mid-sized superior rooms can accommodate two people, while the spacious premium rooms are flexible in terms of the number and types of bed you can have. Choose from two double beds, two twin beds with additional sofa bed, one double and two twin beds, or one double and a sitting area.

Location

The lodge is situated on the main road in Banff, though is set a little further out than some of the other central hotels. The town’s many shops, pubs and restaurants are a short stroll away. All of Banff’s main attractions are within easy reach either by walking, car or one of the public buses, with stops in walking distance.

Food and drink

Both cooked and continental breakfast options are served in the breakfast room each morning and are included in your stay. There’s also the Whitebark Cafe, where you can grab a locally made coffee, tea or light snack before heading out to explore Banff and its surroundings. In the evening, the cafe transforms into a wine bar, with a carefully-curated and regionally-sourced wine list, cheese plates and ambient lighting. The town has a large variety of restaurants, pubs and cafés, all within 10 minute walk of the hotel.

Families

Children are welcome and the premium rooms offer plenty of space and flexibility for families. Play pens are also available upon request.

Facilities and activities

During your stay, you can take a soak in one of the two outdoor hot tubs, which are set beside an outdoor fireplace, or relax in the sauna and steam rooms. There’s also a games library, a guest computer with a printer, and free parking both behind the hotel and underground.

Environmental and social responsibility

The hotel runs an environmental incentive for guests staying for two nights or more — you can choose not to have housekeeping service and the lodge will either donate $4 to the Banff Community Foundation, which supports local environmental initiatives, or instead you can opt to receive a free drink at the Whitebark Cafe. Recycling bins are provided in the rooms, and instead of air conditioning guests are encouraged to open the patio doors or use fans.
