Post Hotel & Spa

Lake Louise, Canada

With a history dating back to 1942, when the property was opened as a ski lodge, the Post Hotel is firmly rooted in Lake Louise’s heritage. Now a Relais & Chateaux member, it offers a high level of comfort and service for those looking to enjoy the surrounding Banff and Yoho National Parks. Both Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are just a short drive away.

The use of wood and stone throughout the property ensures that its original character has remained. Log cabins are available if you’d prefer a more authentic experience, and there are a wide range of rooms and suites to accommodate different group sizes, from single visitors to families.

Indulge in a massage or treatment at the Temple Mountain Spa, or make use of the indoor saltwater pool, Jacuzzi and steam room. There are also three restaurants to choose from: the main dining room provides a more formal setting for fine-dining, while Fondue Stübli offers traditional Swiss-style fondues and the Outpost pub serves more casual fare. There’s also a library where you can sit with a book beside the large stone fireplace, and bicycles can be hired for local exploration during the summer.

OUR OPINION:

The hotel offers a high level of comfort and service, and a location convenient for exploring the nearby lakes, Banff and Yoho National Park. We recommend dinner in the main dining room, while the spa and pool are great places to relax after hiking the local trails.

Rooms

There are five different room types to choose from, which vary in terms of layout, number of beds and views (we recommend the east-facing rooms that overlook trees, lawns and cabins, as the west-facing rooms can get noise from CPR trains). All have en suites with whirlpool baths, a private patio area or balcony, Wi-Fi access and TVs. Tea and coffee facilities are located in the corridor.

There are five different suite types to choose from, some of which are spread across two levels and come with two bathrooms. All have a fireplace and balcony.

The hotel’s four cabins, meanwhile, are set along the riverbank and among the trees. All have one double bed except the larger two-floor Pipestone Cabin which has two bedrooms and a sofa bed for up to five guests.

Location

The hotel is situated in the heart of Lake Louise village, just a short walk from a collection of shops and cafés. Lake Louise is a ten-minute drive away, while Moraine Lake is around an hour away. You’re also a short distance from the Icefields Parkway — one of the most scenic drives in the country.

Food and drink

You have a choice of three restaurants here, including the award-winning main dining room, which serves refined regional and European cuisine, from British Columbia salmon to tender chicken with girolle mushrooms and gnocchi. Alternatively, share a fondue at the Swiss-inspired Fondue Stübli, or grab a more casual meal at The Outpost pub. The hotel also has an impressive wine cellar, holding over 25,500 bottles. Afternoon tea is served in the lobby from 2pm to 5pm, featuring a number of different teas and coffees, as well as cakes and pastries for an additional cost.

Families

A number of room, suite and cabin options are able to accommodate families. In addition, children can make use of the arts and crafts equipment in the library.

Accessibility

Removable grab bars, shower chairs and raised toilets are available upon request for some room options.
