El Pangue Observatory
El Pangue Observatory
El Pangue Observatory is located ten miles to the south of Vicu帽a, in the middle of the Elqui Valley, just an hour and a half from La Serena.
A stay in the Elqui Valley provides you with a great opportunity to explore Chilean Pisco culture.
Pisco is the strong South American 'brandy' distilled from fermented white muscat grapes, grown throughout the Elqui Valley and in Peru. Pisco forms the basis of the Pisco Sour cocktail (made with lemon juice and egg whites) which you will undoubtedly try during your time in Chile, but don't mention Peru! Both countries have claimed the cocktail as their national drink and there is much debate in both countries over ownership of the name.
Visit some of the local 'pisqueras' or Pisco production plants including the oldest plant, Los Nichos, where Pisco is still produced in the traditional way.
