The Maharajas' Express is perhaps the most iconic of Indian trains and has a wonderful reputation — known for its excellent service, well planned routes and excursions as well as the overall attention to detail.
The train has five carriages for Deluxe cabins, six for Junior Suites, two for Suites and one for the grand Presidential Suite. Every cabin has individual temperature controls, a butler for each carriage who can look after your every need and large panoramic windows. Two fine-dining restaurants serve delicious meals and there is a lounge and bars to unwind each evening with fellow guests.
A fabulous way to see parts of India from the comfort of one train, the Maharajas' Express exudes luxury and takes you back in time to the opulence of the Raj. The time spent travelling, exploring and relaxing is really well balanced and the service and food is excellent.

Rooms
Although compact, like all trains, the cabins have good storage space, wardrobes and are very comfortable. The small touches and attention to detail create a really luxurious feel; from morning newspapers and evening chocolates to eye masks and ear plugs. Higher cabin categories have more space, seating areas and bathtubs (as well as the bonus of private excursions). All in-room facilities you’d expect are on offer, including air conditioning, a safe and television.
Location
There is a choice of five different itineraries to choose from, varying in length from four to eight days. Departures and final destinations are a mixture of Delhi and Mumbai. The shorter itineraries offer a great taste of India and are ideally combined with a further tour of the region by road. They’re also perfect for first-timers to this type of trip and can suit a smaller budget.
Food and drink
All drinks, both soft and alcoholic, are complimentary during your stay. The food is fantastic and the service just as good. Meal options include both Indian and Western, and vegetarians are well catered for. Guests have the option to dine anytime they wish when on board; a real advantage if you prefer a later dinner or early breakfast. Snacks are also offered in the bar which is a nice touch with an evening drink.
Facilities and activities
Excursions in each destination are shared and in groups of around 30-35 if the train is at full occupancy. Headphones are provided however, so you’ll never miss any information. Whether in a national park or a busy, city sight, you won’t miss out. Private guides are available to book in advance (at an additional cost) if you’d prefer. On some occasions, spa treatments are offered as an alternative, in case the sightseeing is too much! Cool towels, drinks and hand gel are available throughout and branded caps and fans too.
