Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Lake Como, Italy

Designed to cater for the lucrative market of the Grand Tour, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo opened its doors in 1910 for Europe’s most refined visitors. Today, the hotel’s grand architecture and beautiful views still draw visitors wishing to enjoy the timeless beauty of Lake Como. Facing the lake, the hotel’s façade is dominated by two grand staircases sweeping up to the main entrance.

The hotel’s interior is decorated in classical belle époque style. To the front, there’s a floating lido style pool on the lake, with an adjoining bar. To the back, you’ll find acres of manicured grounds set into the hillside with sun terraces, a pool, gym and spa.

OUR OPINION:

One of the best luxury hotels on Lake Como, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo effortlessly blends historic charm with contemporary style and we highly recommend it. The facilities here are also excellent.

Rooms

All the rooms are tastefully furnished in a classical style. Alongside the period furniture you’ll find standard amenities including air-conditioning, high speed Wi-Fi, an LCD TV and a DVD player. All the rooms to the back of the property offer views across the park and hillside and come with either a large bay window or balcony. The rooms to the front look out across the lake and have their own private balcony. The majority of the marble bathrooms have a bathtub, with walk-in showers available in certain rooms on request, along with interconnecting rooms for families.

Location

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo sits in the greater Tremezzina area which is the central mid-section of Lake Como and arguably the most beautiful position on the water. Guests have direct views across to the town of Bellagio, known as the pearl of the lake. The gardens of Villa Carlotta are on the doorstep and there’s easy access to the nearby towns of Varenna and Menaggio, as well as Bellagio.

Food and drink

Breakfast is served in the grand dining room overlooking the lake. Formal dining is offered here in the evening, while more informal options are available throughout the day in the lounge bar, the lakeside beach bar, and La Terrazza restaurant. A great selection of pizzas are served next to the outdoor pool, while the stylish L’Escale Fondue and Wine bar offers classic fondue dishes and an excellent wine menu.

Facilities and activities

As well as the floating swimming pool to the front of the property, there are two further pools — one with a sun terrace and the other an indoor pool with panoramic views over the lake. The spa includes a Turkish steam room, ice shower and sauna with lake views. There’s also a large gym and a floodlit clay tennis court.
