Palace Hotel

Lake Como, Italy

The Palace Hotel occupies a dramatic position, right on the lakefront in the heart of Como.

This characterful hotel is split between two main wings — the central Plinius wing with its grandiose belle époque lake frontage and the adjacent Pianella wing which includes the restaurant and breakfast room. Both sections offer wonderful lake views.

The highlight of the property is the excellent Garden Bar Ceccato restaurant where you can sit outside and enjoy views of the lake with one of their famous homemade ice creams or an evening drink as the sun sets.

OUR OPINION:

This classical lakeside hotel offers a comfortable base from which to explore Como. The staff here are particularly friendly and we wholeheartedly recommend it for those looking for somewhere with plenty of shops and cafés right on their doorstep.

Rooms

The rooms at the Palace Hotel are split between the two main wings — Plinius and Pianella. The Plinius section faces directly onto the lake and is part of the original belle époque hotel. The bathrooms offer either a bath or walk-in shower depending on preference. Rooms at the front face onto the lake while those at the back of this wing look out across the town to the cathedral. In the adjacent Pianella wing, the rooms tend to be much larger and more classic in style. The deluxe options have views of the lake. Rooms in this wing also boast large bathrooms with bathtubs and walk-in showers. All rooms have air-conditioning, TVs and Wi-Fi.

Location

Located on the lakefront in central Como, the Palace Hotel is ideal for exploring on foot. Just steps away, you’ll find the cathedral and main central shopping area with numerous cafés. Another five-minute walk will take you to the heart of medieval Como with its narrow, winding lanes. For boat trips on the lake, there’s a jetty nearby and the funicular up to Brunate is just around the corner.

Food and drink

The buffet style breakfast is served in the main breakfast room which is hung with huge oil paintings and chandeliers. Next door you’ll find the cosy restaurant, Antica Darsena, which overlooks the waters of the old dock from which it takes its name. Beyond the terrace you’ll find the Garden Bar Cecatto overlooking the lake. The hotel’s chefs are proud to present a menu of local style dishes.
