Echo Valley Ranch & Spa is set midway between Whistler and Jasper and is one of western Canada's most memorable destinations. The ranch is an hour's drive along a gravel track from the nearest town and offers an authentic bush experience. However, it's not as rustic as its location suggests and successfully merges comfortable living with rugged wilderness.
Perched on a hillside overlooking Mount Bowman and the Jesmond Valley are the two main lodges and a series of individual cabins along with a stable block, orchards and horse paddocks, as well as two spas. The owners are a Canadian-Thai couple and the dramatic landscapes are tempered by elements of Asian elegance in the carved Thai gables and gourmet food.
There are just 18 rooms decorated in a comfortable, traditional style. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is sourced locally and the combination of ranching and spa activities offers a good mix of adventure and relaxation.
You can go riding along forested trails, hike up mountains, take a 4x4 photo safari to a desert canyon or go flight-seeing over glaciers. Alternatively, fish for trout in a mountain lake, flame-grill your catch at a cowboy cookout or even try your luck at gold panning.
We love Echo Valley's balance of seclusion and indulgence, and the extensive range of activities on offer. It makes the perfect option for those looking for both a ranch experience and a relaxing spa break.

Rooms
The ranch offers Standard rooms in Dove Lodge, the main hub of the ranch, and Premium rooms in Lookout Lodge, which is quieter. There are also a range of individual log cabins with private decks in the grounds. All rooms are decorated in a traditional style with warm woods and earthy fabrics in sage, cinnamon, ocher or chocolate brown. The Royal Suite has a Thai design with an intricately-carved bed and doors, wooden blinds and direct access to the adjacent Thai spa. All rooms offer views of the mountains and valley and have complimentary Wi-Fi, a minibar and coffee machine.Â
Location
Echo Valley Ranch is located an hour's drive from the nearest town of Clinton, BC on a gravel road. If not driving, you can also get to the ranch via light aircraft if you wish to charter a plane from nearby Vancouver which would take around 40 minutes. Charter flights are also available from Abbotsford or Squamish.Â
Food and drink
Sourcing local food and supporting local farms is a key belief at Echo Valley. The ranch has its own organic garden and raise their own livestock and poultry. Meals are served around a big wooden table in Dove Lodge, though if you prefer, individual tables can be set. Breakfast and lunch consist of hot and cold buffet options, while dinner is a pre-set, three-course meal with a choice of dishes. Freshly-baked cookies, tea and coffee are available all day and on Thursday evenings there's a Thai banquet and dancing. The ranch also often hosts Western barbecue cookouts. All meals are included, and wine and beer are complimentary with dinner.Â
Families
The ranch offers plenty of family-friendly activities such as riding, fishing and hiking, and some of the Premium rooms have loft areas with additional beds for children.Â
Facilities and activities
The ranch has two spas, an indoor pool and gym facilities, as well as a horse riding arena, fishing ponds and a games room. The most popular activity, however, is riding into the bush, forests and through the surrounding foothills. Guests can also explore on foot or by mountain bike with a series of hiking and downhill trails in the area. Bikes are available to borrow at the ranch and white-water rafting is available nearby.
Accessibility
The ranch is set on a slight incline and does not have any rooms or cabins that are fully wheelchair accessible. Some rooms are more suited to the less mobile but still include one or two steps.Â
