Emerald Lake Lodge is nestled in the rugged Yoho National Park on the shores of its namesake lake, known for its unusual bright turquoise waters. With fieldstone fireplaces and a bar salvaged from an 1890 Yukon saloon, this rustic lodge provides a comfortable base for exploring the Canadian Rockies.
Each of the 85 rustic rooms boasts a wood-burning fieldstone fireplace and a balcony, with no TV to distract you from the landscapes outside. Locally, you'll find many walking trails through the area, including a 5.5-km (3.5-mile) hike around the lake. The lodge also has a games room with an antique snooker table, a lounge bar with terrace views, and a clubhouse with a dry sauna.
The lodge sometimes gets busy during the summer season, but we think that watching the sun rise over the clear glacial waters is worth it.
We come to this rustic lodge for the views of the bright turquoise lake and the lush beauty of the Canadian Rockies. The rooms are a bit outdated, but we hope the setting makes up for any shortcomings.

Rooms
The rustic rooms here all feature wood-burning fieldstone fireplaces, balconies and a sitting area, as well as a coffeemaker. The lodge offers two principal room types, several Emerald Suites, and the exclusive Point Cabin. The Lodge rooms come with a queen, king or two double beds but the Lake View rooms are only set up with a king bed. The suites have one queen bed and the Point Cabin contains a king. Intermittent Wi-Fi is only available in the main lodge building itself.
Location
The lodge is located just a 15-minute drive north of Field and 40 minutes from Lake Louise, in the heart of Yoho National Park. Its remote location means a car is essential, but ideal for those who wish to explore the beauty of the mountains.
Food and drink
Breakfast is available in the main lodge for an extra charge, either à la carte or you can help yourself to the buffet. The Mount Burgess dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The menu focuses on Rocky Mountain cuisine, featuring local elk, bison and caribou, along with a selection of pastas and seafood. Kicking Horse Lounge serves drinks daily from behind a historic oak bar, salvaged from an 1890s Yukon saloon.
You can enjoy more bistro-style casual dining and lake views at Cilantro on the Lake during the warm summer months. There's also a window that serves coffee, tea, snacks and gelator.
Facilities and activities
The lodge offers a games room with an antique snooker table. There is also a sauna, treadmills and an outdoor hot tub. You can rent fishing rods or canoes by the entrance to the lake itself or take a number of walking trails through the surrounding countryside.
