A stay on this ranch allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature. Comprising four lovingly restored heritage log cabins, the property is owned and run by husband and wife team Tarn and Joanne White, who live on site with their two young children and three friendly dogs. Tarn’s mother also lives at the ranch and cooks delicious breakfasts to order each morning. Three-course dinners can also be prepared if requested in advance, and you can toast marshmallows around the campfire.
Surrounded by firs and open fields, the property enjoys a secluded countryside setting where hummingbirds flit about and unpolluted night skies make for excellent stargazing. During your stay you can take strolls around the private lake, paddle a kayak or canoe, or feed the resident alpacas. You’re close to Wells Gray’s key trails and viewpoints, while Clearwater is just half an hour’s drive away.
Constructed entirely from spruce, the one and two-bedroom cabins (the oldest of which dates back to 1927) have been carefully restored to retain their authentic character, while the cream walls, large windows and polished wooden floors give them a contemporary flourish. Each has a bathroom, living room with TV and DVD player, and a decking area.
There are lots of things that we love about Wolfwood: its peaceful countryside setting, its location close to the park’s many waterfalls, and its comfortable cabins. There’s a real personal feel to a stay here, and you’ll leave having had an authentic taste of rural Canada.

Rooms
Each generously sized cabin has its own personality and charm, and has been lovingly restored by the Whites. Handmade artwork, slippers, patchwork quilts and rugs give the cabins a personal touch, while items related to the area are mounted on the walls, such as axes, antlers and snowshoes. Large windows and high ceilings create a light, airy feel. But, one of the best ways to spend your time is sitting out on your private porch — hummingbird feeders are hung from the corners, and you can watch (and hear) the birds as they flit between them. Inside, there’s a TV with DVD player but Wi-Fi is mostly limited to the main building.
Location
The ranch is located off Clearwater Valley Road, along an unpaved road that can be bumpy. Clearwater Valley Road provides access to many of Wells Gray Provincial Park’s main attractions, including Dawson, Helmcken, Moul and Spahats Falls, which are all within half an hour’s drive. The small town of Clearwater is just over half an hour’s drive away.
Food and drink
A cooked breakfast is made to order each morning and pastries still warm from the oven are also served. You can sit down with fellow guests for a three-course home-cooked dinner in the evening if requested a day in advance. Afterwards, head out to the fire pit for some marshmallow toasting and stargazing. Tea and coffee facilities are provided in your room. There are also a few restaurants in Clearwater should you wish to dine out.
Families
Two-bedroom cabins provide plenty of space for families, and there’s lots of space to run around in the extensive grounds (though children must be supervised at all times). There’s a children’s play area, and time can be spent feeding the alpacas and chickens.
Facilities and activities
Wolfwood host a wide variety of wilderness survival classes, for half-day, full-day or multi-day, which can be booked before arrival. These include activities like shelter building, family survival skills, cheese making, fire building, knife craft and a medicinal plant walk. The ranch also has a canoe and kayaks for guest use on the lake, and several trails into the mountains.
