A helicopter trip is a great way to see the glaciers and snowy mountain peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Your flight takes off from Canmore Municipal Heliport at the base of the Three Sisters Peaks. When you arrive, you can help yourself to a tea or coffee from the reception area, before sitting down in the briefing room to watch a short safety video about the correct way to approach and get into the helicopter.
This 30-minute flight will find you soaring past the Three Sisters and into the Spray Valley, where you can spot the Spray Lakes. You’ll then head through the Goat Range Pass and along the snow-covered Sundance Range of Banff National Park, before approaching the ‘Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies’. Mount Assiniboine rises to 3,611 meters (11,870 feet) along the Great Divide, and you’ll get an up-close look at the bright blue Gloria Glacier as it tumbles off the mountain. Your return flight will provide views of the Bow River, which twists and turns back to Canmore. Your pilot will speak to you throughout the flight, pointing out and naming particular mountains, rivers and lakes, and you can ask them questions at any time using the in-helicopter radio system. At the end of your flight, you can buy souvenirs from the small gift shop and help yourself to another tea or coffee if you wish.
