Explore Kor膷ula Island through its food and drink on this private, half-day tour that looks at the artisan honey, olive oil, wine and rakija produced on the island. Meet the producers, tour their farms, learn about their products and get an insight into the history of food production on the island. With a personal guide and a chance to meet families that have been farming on the island for generations, it’s an engaging way to see the island’s traditional way of life in action and to taste some of Croatia’s finest local products in the region in which they are produced.
You’ll be picked up at your hotel in Kor膷ula and will drive southeast to begin your tour of the island’s artisan food producers. Your first stop is Vlaho Komparak’s boutique honey farm, home to 20 million bees in 240 hives. Vlaho will take you through the honey-making process as you tour his farm, after which you’ll sample a collection of his honey as well as his award-winning olive oils which he infuses with essences of heather, sage and mandarin, all grown in his own organic gardens.
Leaving the honey farm, the countryside opens up to the green hillsides of Lumbarda. You’ll pass by fields carpeted in red plavac mali and white grk grapes, the foundation of the region’s thriving wine industry. After a brief visit to the town of Lumbarda, you’ll continue to the Bire Winery to sample some of the island’s native varietals which are served with a small plate of the family’s own goat’s cheese and pršut (dry-cured ham).
Continuing on from Lumbarda you’ll drive north through dense olive groves to the hillside town of 沤rnovo for a visit to the Marovi膰 family’s estate. Since 2008, the Marovi膰’s have been growing a wide variety of organic products including olives, fruits and vegetables and producing a selection of local candies and soaps.
Here, you’ll sit down for a three-course meal of locally grown ingredients paired with Kor膷ula wines and homemade rakija (a traditional Croatian fruit brandy). In addition to the rewards of a delicious meal, the experience will give you a first-hand look at traditional life on the island of Kor膷ula. After your meal, you can wander around the small town of 沤rnovo before being escorted back to your hotel.
