UK & Ireland Specialist

I’ve always been driven to travel and explore, so naturally for college I chose to attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland. I was attracted by the history of one of the oldest surviving universities on earth and relished the opportunity to explore more of the country.

As an American I was enticed by the school’s royal connection, being the place where Prince William and Kate Middleton started their romance. My life in Scotland went above and beyond my expectations. I attended raucous rugby matches in Glascow, chaotic pool hall tournaments in Dundee, and a refined opera performance in Aberdeen.

More recently I had the opportunity to go back to the UK and Ireland on a familiarization trip where I experienced Audley’s portfolio of hotels and excursions. I can’t wait to share my local expertise as I craft your perfect British and Irish vacation.

Q&A with Paul

The Quiraing, Isle of Skye

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

My first time on the Isle of Skye, my family and I were driving home from dinner when my cousin made a wrong turn, leaving us literally in the middle of nowhere. The rugged landscape looked so different from anywhere else I’ve seen on earth, I could’ve sworn we’d left the planet. Dusk was approaching, and we were getting slightly scared, when we suddenly came upon a massive flock of friendly sheep. While they didn’t provide us directions, they sat with us and kept us company as we looked out at the most vibrant sunset I’ve ever seen.

Where would you love to travel next?

Vietnam has long been on my bucket list, ever since I watched an Anthony Bourdain documentary where he traveled up and down the country experiencing the culture and cuisine, culminating in him casually grabbing street food and a beer with Barack Obama.

Your best piece of travel advice?

The stereotype about rain in the British Isles is dreadfully accurate. Make sure to bring a good quality raincoat if you’re planning any outdoor activities. In addition, you may want to invest in some wellies (rainboots). Thankfully, if you do get soaked many old pubs will have a roaring fire to quickly dry you out.
