Set on the edge of the old town of Sarlat, Hôtel La Couleuvrine offers a mix of charm and comfort. The building was a corner tower of the town’s fortifications in the Middle Ages and many original features remain intact inside including an original 13th-century fireplace in the restaurant, wooden beams and exposed stonework. The historic surroundings are complemented by a mixture of antique and modern furniture that creates a relaxed and homely style.
Due to the historic nature of the building, guest rooms vary considerably but all feature warm tones accented with vibrant fabrics. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and the views from the room offer a bird’s eye vista over the medieval streets of Sarlat.
A typical French breakfast is served in the mornings and the hotel’s restaurant is open for lunch and dinner with a menu revolving around regional dishes. As it is located just steps from the central square, Place de la Liberté, a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafés are easily accessible on foot.
Ideally located between the pedestrian old town and one of the main roads, this hotel provides a convenient base to explore Sarlat and the greater Dordogne region. It has a rich history, warm interior design and a character-laden restaurant.

Rooms
Rooms here are simple yet comfortable with warm tones, rich fabric accents and traditional furnishings. Each is different in size and style, with the larger family rooms sleeping up to four guests. Some have exposed beams and stone walls, others a more contemporary yet classically French style. Large windows provide natural light and views over the town. Each room offers complimentary Wi-Fi access as well as bathrooms with large showers and updated fixtures (though, please note there isn’t air conditioning).
Location
Originally occupying a corner of the city’s fortified walls in the 13th century, Hôtel La Couleuvrine is situated on the edge of the historic old town. A wide array of dining and shopping options are within a five-to-ten-minute walk of the hotel. It also stands on a road that (unlike some of the town’s cobbled streets) allows vehicles to drop you right outside the hotel entrance and makes it a convenient starting point for exploration of the Dordogne region.
Food and drink
A typical French breakfast featuring a selection of breads, pastries, local cheese, yogurt, cereal and fruit juice is served buffet-style in the hotel’s small salon. Hot drinks including coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cappuccinos can be made from a self-service machine. The hotel restaurant, with its vaulted stone ceiling and 13th-century fireplace, serves local dishes for lunch and dinner in the traditional dining room and newer salon.
