Acatenango Volcano Hike
Acatenango Volcano Hike
Trek through open fields, farmland and Pacific cloudforest with spectacular views over the Antigua valley area.
Change location
Your tour will start with a transfer of approximately one hour from your hotel in Antigua to the foothills of the active Pacaya volcano.
The hike will begin with a fairly strenuous trek through pine forest up to the more tricky volcanic ash section. Due to a recent eruption, you can no longer walk to the crater but you will experience the sulfur smoking cone. Occasionally, you can see small eruptions and lava flow depending on the activity of the volcano. There are fantastic views to the northern volcanoes throughout the entire hike.
On your way down, you will stop to enjoy a picnic lunch, and admire the views of the volcano before returning to the base for your transfer back to your hotel in Antigua. The total tour will normally last from 8am to around 4.30pm. You will be part of a small group so there may be other pick-ups and drop-offs at other hotels.
