Built by Thakur Anoop Singh Ji, Chanoud Garh has been in the hands of the same family for 13 generations and is steeped in history. Like many forts in the region, the property is laid out around two main courtyards, with your friendly hosts, the Singh family, living around one courtyard with their dogs, and the handful of guest suites located around the other.
The fort has been carefully restored, with much attention taken to respect the original building's style and character. You'll be warmly welcomed by the Singhs, who like to host drinks each evening before dinner and are always keen to show guests around the local area. A stay at Chanoud Garh is a wonderful opportunity to experience staying in a maharaja's palace.
Chanoud Garh is often described as a trip highlight by Audley travelers, largely due to the warm welcome provided by the Singh family and the fantastic opportunity to witness local life first-hand. We completely agree; it's a beautiful property and provides a true home-away-from-home experience.

Rooms
With just a small number of suites, the property has an intimate and personal feel. Each suite is unique due to the age and character of the building, with some featuring stunning stained-glass windows and others boasting original stone archways and impressive carvings. Spacious and beautifully-presented, they're all furnished with period-style furniture and featuring large en suite bathrooms. With the exception of TVs, the suites provide a good range of modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.
Location
Located in the heart of rural Rajasthan, between Jodhpur and Udaipur, Chanoud Garh has a central position in Chanoud village.
Food and drink
All meals are included in the price of staying at Chanoud. You'll be treated to some delicious, traditional home-cooked Rajasthani cuisine, including many Singh family favorites using recipes that have been passed down through the generations. Dinner is served either in the courtyard or on the rooftop terrace.
Facilities and activities
An evening trip to the nearby salt plains at sunset is one of the highlights of a visit here, as well as a morning walk around the village accompanied by Mahiraj Singh, which allows you to meet the locals, including the village potter and shop owner.
Accessibility
Due to the heritage nature of Chanoud Garh, there are several stone steps located around the property, which makes it less accessible to those who have difficulty walking.
Environmental and social responsibility
The Singh family still take their (now unofficial) role as maharajas of Chanoud very seriously. As a result, they've been involved in funding and improving the facilities in both the school and local hospital. Their interaction and involvement with the village is important to them, and they always welcome locals to the fort during major festivals or village celebrations.
