Ranjit's Svaasa

Ranjit's Svaasa

Amritsar, India

Tucked away down a private street, just off the famous Mall Road, Ranjit's Svaasa is a 200-year-old family home, converted by the Mehra family into a heritage hotel. Run like a non-hotel, each of the 18 rooms is unique, having been tastefully decorated with the owner's personal touches. The property has boutique suites, private nooks and corners, fruit trees, flowers, and a rooftop herb garden. There is a small spa housed in what once used to be the horse stables, a delightful garden and a restaurant serving a selection of delicious food with the option to sit outside under the trees.

OUR OPINION:

Ranjit's Svaasa’s charm and individuality is quite something! We recommend it often to our clients for its warm hospitality and the delightful authentic home cooked north Indian food.

Rooms

This haveli has 18 rooms spread over two floors that open onto terraces, verandas or the courtyard. Each room has its own style and character, adorned with photographs that hold the stories of the past, and glass cabinets that brim with artifacts. Some have a shower cubicle whereas a few have a bathtub as well.

Location

Away from the main market area of central Amritsar yet easy to access the sights, it has plenty of outdoor space for relaxing including an attractive central courtyard.

Food and drink

Based on the fundamentals of farm to fork cuisine, the menus at Ranjit’s Svaasa change daily with only seasonal produce. The Mehra family is extremely passionate about their food to the extent that they ground their own spice blends and have home-made preparations from their fruit trees and flowers around the haveli and seasonal vegetables from their kitchen gardens. You can enjoy select dishes that have passed down generations that need to be pre-booked or a meal cooked over a ‘chulla.’ Meals can be served in their courtyard or the terraces, the lounges, or the front patio by the garden.

Facilities and activities

Tucked away in a quiet lane, the outdoor has several nooks and crannies providing peaceful rest areas. Other facilities include Empire Lounge and Library, Herbs Café for the cozy high-tea, and a Green Room that has a TV, a cards table and board games for kids. What used to be the cowshed and the horse stables is now their quaint Hibiscus Spa, housing three spa chambers that offer the age-old Ayurveda therapies.
