From Asahidake Onsen the cable car ride to the midway point of Mt Asahidake is the main attraction, and deservedly so — the views get more and more breathtaking the higher up you climb.
There are a number of short circular walks taking in some of the small lakes and scenic viewpoints in the vicinity of the cable car station, or if you prefer, there are longer, more strenuous trails striking out to the summit of Mt Asahidake (2,290 m) and beyond.
Snow lingers until early July so any climbing attempts made before this require special care. Once the snows have finally melted, however, the high meadows blossom with alpine flowers making it one of the most popular times to visit.
Fall comes early here too; it's not unusual for the leaves to start to turn during the first week of September.
