Take the bullet train west to Japan's cultural heart and past capital, Kyoto. Kyoto is one of the world's most culturally rich cities with 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, more than 1,600 Buddhist temples, and over 400 Shinto shrines. When you reach Kyoto, you'll meet your guide for a half-day tour of Kyoto's main sights. This evening, meet our geisha guide for a walk through the Gion district to spot the elusive geisha on the way to their appointments.

In the morning, head out with a local guide to see some of the spectacular temples in Kyoto. Stop at Kodai-ji, one of the city's most exclusive places for tea ceremonies, before continuing to the Higashiyama district to gaze upon the awe-inspiring architecture of the area.
-
Today is a chance to explore some of the temples further afield with a private guide. Fushimi-inari Taisha Shrine is famous for the tunnels of red Torii gates working their way through the forest and is one of the best sights in Japan. About an hour from Kyoto is the ancient capital of Nara where you can find Todai-ji, one of the largest wooden structures in the world, set in beautiful parkland filled with tame deer.
-
Travel from Kyoto to Hakone. Hakone National Park is known for the open-air art museum, grand views of Mt.
