  • Arriving in Chiang Rai, you will be met and taken to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to relax after your flight.

  • This morning you will head to the border. After clearing Lao immigration you will board a traditionally styled wooden boat and begin your journey along the mighty Mekong River to Pakbeng.

  • Driving northeast you pass through beautiful countryside and arrive in Oudomxay Province, in the heart of northern Laos. You will have two nights in this beautiful area.

  • Explore the area's remote villages with your guide, including a Hmong village and a village inhabited by the Ikoh tribe, who came to the region from Tibet generations ago.

  • Continuing through northern Laos today you reach the riverside community at Nong Khiaw, a spectacular river journey. Stay in a wooden bungalow on stilts on the banks of the River Ou.

  • Head out with your guide to the village of Muang Ngoi to enjoy trekking and kayaking along the scenic Nam Ou River. A picnic lunch will be held beside the Tad Mork waterfall.

  • Today, travel through winding roads surrounded by mountain scenery to Vieng Thong, a small town in the Nam Khan River Valley.

    Stay at Dorkkounthong Guest House
  • This morning, drive with your guide to Nam Et-Phou Louey for the Nam Nern Night Safari, where you can spot wildlife in a truly remote setting.

  • Continue onward to Sam Neua today, where you can visit the Vieng Xai Caves, which were the home of the Lao Communist regime leaders during the end of the colonial era and later the American war in Vietnam.

  • Make your way to Phonsavan with your guide, home to the mysterious UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Plain of Jars.

  • Explore the enigmatic Plain of Jars with your guide, who can share various theories on how the massive stone jars came to rest in this remote corner of Laos.

  • Depart the Plain of Jars for the drive through winding hillside roads and towering limestone cliffs to another UNESCO site, Luang Prabang.

  • Start today with a short introduction to the Lao language, which will come in handy when you visit the night market. In the afternoon take a tour of Luang Prabang's highlights.

  • Return to the countryside today and visit Mandalao, one of the best and most ethical elephant experiences in the area. Learn how the caretakers communicate with the elephants, what they eat, and how they behave.

  • Start this morning early to witness the tradition of almsgiving on the streets of Luang Prabang. Return to your hotel for breakfast before heading to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfall. Enjoy a picnic lunch after your exploration.

  • Relax and enjoy the dramatic limestone scenery today. You may wish to borrow a bicycle and explore the area on two wheels, or take a kayak to see more of the river.
