RV Paukan 1947 is a fascinating vessel for cruising the mighty Ayeyarwady. Built in Scotland following World War II, she arrived in Myanmar in 1950, carrying cargo and passengers between Mandalay and Bhamo. In 1989 she was renovated into a comfortable cruise boat, undergoing a further renovation in 2003 to make her the modern but characterful vessel she is today.

The pioneer of river travel in Myanmar, the Paukan 1947 has a fascinating history and aims to take cruising back to a bygone era. Traveling from Yangon north through the plains to Bagan and on to Mandalay is a journey filled with history and cultural insight. Heading further into the wilderness along the Chindwin River allows you to delve deeper into a Myanmar that’s a far cry from the bustling streets of Yangon as you reach the northern extremities of the Ayeyarwady, where Katha, the setting for George Orwell's Burmese Days, and spectacular gorges demonstrate the country’s beauty.
On board, Paukan 1947 retains her original colonial elements, such as ironwood decks, old brass fittings and teak-walled cabins, combining them with modern luxuries. There are plenty of spaces in which to relax while on board, including the sun deck, where you can take in wonderful views of the river.
