North of Nyae Nyae the Khaudum National Park is little known and vastly underrated.

It’s a huge expanse of dry woodland savannah, open pans and wild river beds.

Wildlife of Khaudum National Park

In the dry season its permanent water holes are a magnet for large numbers of game. Tsessebe, roan antelope and red hartebeest are all present along with a healthy number of predators including lion, spotted hyena and wild dog. Perhaps the most spectacular are the elephant herds which migrate from Botswana. They come in their hundreds and it’s sometimes possible to see up to 300 round a waterhole in a day.

Camping

There is no accommodation in the Khaudum, just designated camping spots. Arno Oosthuysen runs private mobile camping trips here. These are ideal for those who want an adventurous and well-guided game experience.
