Responsible Choice
This well-maintained boutique hotel in a chic, quiet Johannesburg suburb was previously a stately private residence. It has been renovated into an attractive, understated property with modernized interiors.
The bright lobby lounge leads through to a bar and bistro restaurant where simple yet sophisticated dishes are served on a patio overlooking the pool. Rooms are located in the main house or across the gardens, which are particularly pleasant: verdant, with paved stone walkways and beds of colorful flowers, including birds of paradise. The pool is separated from the main gardens by a small box hedge, and has sunloungers and parasols.
The Peech is a truly stylish and contemporary retreat from the bustle of daily life in Johannesburg, and for this reason it is one of our favorite hotels in the city.

Rooms
The property has fewer than 20 rooms in total. Designed with a vibrant, modern feel, the rooms contain many African accents, from brightly colored cushions to unique walls and all have a stylish finish. All have en suite modern bathrooms with baths and walk-in showers. Rooms in the upper level of the house retain much of the original property’s character, while the additional garden rooms and suites overlook the gardens and have private patios or balconies. The suites are spacious and have extra design touches such as a hanging pod chair. All the rooms are air-conditioned and have Wi-Fi access.
Location
The Peech Hotel is located in Melrose, a chic suburb in the neighborhood of Sandton. It is five minutes from the Gautrain Station in Johannesburg and a short taxi ride away from many of the city’s best restaurants.
Food and drink
The Peech Hotel has a bistro that overlooks the hotel’s landscaped gardens and pool area. It makes a point of sourcing its ingredients from local suppliers or its own vegetable garden and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is only open to hotel guests.
Families
Children of all ages are welcomed and a number of the rooms can accommodate an extra bed on request.
Honeymooners
Surrounded by trees on a one-acre property with manicured gardens, the hotel is a delightful retreat in the middle of the city. It is ideal for couples who prefer a more private and intimate setting than that offered by the bigger hotels of the Sandton area.
Facilities and activities
Aside from the pool, guests can use the neighboring privately-run gym for a small fee. The property has its own library and features art exhibitions that are constantly rotated in the hotel’s public areas. It occasionally puts on special events, such as wine evenings. Wi-Fi is complimentary and unlimited throughout the hotel.
Environmental and social responsibility
Certified as a 'Fair Trade in Tourism' hotel since 2010, Peech is setting an example in Johannesburg on both environmental best practices and having a positive impact on local communities. Heat pump water systems reduce energy consumption and the use of composting, recycling, and a probiotic processor all ensure minimal waste is produced by the hotel. A stay at the property helps support, Little Eden, a charitable home in Johannesburg caring for children and young adults with severe physical and intellectual disabilities.
