Siwandu

Nyerere National Park, Tanzania

Siwandu Camp enjoys a great location in Nyerere National Park, with fantastic views over Lake Nzerakera.

Siwandu is split up into two camps, both of which have a private and peaceful atmosphere. They each have their own communal areas in which guests can dine and relax while looking out over the lake, perhaps spotting some game coming down to the water to drink. The large tents are spacious, cool and stylish, boasting great views of the lake, where elephant and giraffe are regular visitors.

OUR OPINION:

This is one of our favorite camps in Tanzania. It's evident that a lot of thought has been put into making the camp very comfortable, ensuring that everyone’s stay is enjoyable. On top of this, the activities are well organized, food superb and the location is very pretty, making the camp an excellent base for exploring Nyerere National Park and its abundant wildlife.

Rooms

Each of the camp's spacious tents is raised on wooden decks under high thatched roofs, offering a high level of comfort and privacy. Inside, not a detail has been overlooked, with large beds, wardrobes and fans included in every tent. The en suite bathrooms have hot outdoor showers, basins and flush toilets, while spacious verandas are furnished with comfortable chairs — perfect for relaxing in on lazy afternoons. As the camp isn't fenced, you'll often see antelope grazing on the site's grounds and walking along the pathways in front of you, making you feel truly at one with nature.

Location

Siwandu has an idyllic setting on the fringes of Lake Nzerakera. The camp's two large thatch bomas are raised up on stilts, providing spectacular views across the water.

Food and drink

Breakfast includes a continental buffet, with the option to order hot breakfast. Private dinners are served by candlelight in the boma. The food here is very good, with traditional Swahili cuisine served a few nights a week.

Families

Children over the age of six are welcome at Siwandu, although only two children can be booked into the camp at a time and they must be supervised at all times. The camp offers special children’s walks as an extra activity.

Facilities and activities

There are plenty of well organized activities available from Siwandu. Half and full day game drives on open 4x4s are led by professional guides, while guided walking safaris are a great way to learn about tracking some of the larger animals. Walking safaris also allow you to take more time to notice the smaller creatures that you can often overlook on a game drive. The boat trips offered in small boats are a delight; particularly for bird enthusiasts. If you want to try your hand at fishing, a guide will take you out on a boat to spend a couple of hours on the lake. Other facilities on site include a swimming pool and a laundry service.
