The island of Koh Phi Phi Don has never failed to impress its visitors with its beautiful sandy beaches, emerald waters and striking rock formations soaring from a mountainous interior.

Post-tsunami

Koh Phi Phi, ThailandPrior to the tsunami some areas in the south were becoming more popular with a burgeoning selection of bungalow accommodation and a lively social scene. The area is showing signs of recovery and visitors are now returning to the Ton Sai Village area where redevelopment and investment is in progress.

It is the northeast beaches however, unscathed by the tsunami, that are still less visited and remain relatively undisturbed, being home to communities of chao náam or sea gypsies.

There are several resorts that we recommend in this area with excellent standards of accommodation on some of the island’s best beaches — perfect for a quiet, unspoilt and relaxing end to a busy itinerary.
