Cromlix, the Trossachs

Cromlix

The UK

Owned by British tennis star Andy Murray, Cromlix is a country house hotel with exceptional levels of service. Hidden away in secluded woodland just east of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, it offers guests a decadent experience.

From the magnificent wooden staircase leading up from the grand entrance hall, the wood-paneled billiard room bedecked with antlers, to the whisky room with its own copper still and the hotel’s tiny chapel, there are interesting features throughout the property. The hotel’s Chez Roux restaurant, overseen by top chef Albert Roux, serves delectable cuisine within a glass-walled room overlooking the extensive grounds.

OUR OPINION:

A beautiful hotel emanating a sense of luxury and relaxation, Cromlix is a wonderful boutique hideaway.

Rooms

The majority of the bedrooms and suites are within the main building, with an additional gate lodge suite in the grounds (the only room with disabled access). The suites are suites in the old-fashioned sense of the word, with a private front door leading to a series of rooms and a freestanding bath. All rooms and suites are elegantly decorated with high-quality furniture and bedding, and have free Wi-Fi. Views from the rooms look out over the grounds, tennis courts or surrounding countryside.

Location

Located just east of the Trossachs mountain range in a secluded, wooded valley, Cromlix enjoys views over the surrounding hills toward the mountains. It’s a remote property, set within large grounds, but can be reached from either Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport in around 50 minutes by car.

Food and drink

The hotel has just one restaurant, the acclaimed Chez Roux, which is overseen by top French chef Albert Roux. The restaurant is glass fronted and looks out across the front lawn. The menu features local ingredients as much as possible, many of which are grown in the hotel’s kitchen gardens. Afternoon tea is served in the bar lounge. Private dining can also be arranged.

Facilities and activities

The hotel has tennis courts, a croquet lawn and large areas of woodland and gardens to explore. You can fish on the loch, play board games or billiards, practice archery, watch a falconry display or enjoy whisky tasting. Other activities include quad biking, clay pigeon shooting and off-road driving. You can also arrange for a spa treatment in your room.

Accessibility

The gate lodge suite in the grounds has disabled access. There’s no lift in the main building.
