The Grant Arms Hotel, Grantown on Spey

The Grant Arms Hotel

The Cairngorms, The UK

The Grant Arms Hotel is a Victorian hotel in the heart of Grantown-on-Spey, with a rather grand gray stone façade. Its main focus is on wildlife; the hotel has a wonderful ‘wildlife corridor’ lined with local maps and posters identifying species, which leads to a club room. This is filled with bird and wildlife books, suggested local walks and activities, a sightings board and a room that regularly hosts talks by famous wildlife experts and TV presenters. The 50 bedrooms are a little plain but perfectly comfortable, and the food served in the restaurant is delicious, made from locally sourced ingredients.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel because it’s a fantastic option for wildlife enthusiasts, with resources and knowledgeable staff to help you make the most of your time in the Cairngorms.

Rooms

The hotel’s rooms are all furnished in a fairly similar way and differ mainly by size. The decor is fairly simple and every room has basic tea-and coffee-making facilities, an en suite bathroom and a TV. In the standard rooms the furniture is a little more modern, while the superior and four-poster rooms are quite traditionally furnished and overlook the square.

Location

The Grant Arms Hotel is located in Grantown-on-Spey, a small town in the east of the Cairngorms National Park. It’s around a half hour drive to Aviemore and Rothiemurchus, typically the base point for any activities in the Cairngorms, and about 50 minutes to Inverness. Grantown-on-Spey itself is a fairly well established town, with shops, cafés and the odd restaurant of its own.

Food and drink

The hotel has a restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner, concentrating on traditional Scottish cuisine and using local ingredients wherever possible. There’s also a bar, which serves food between 12 noon and 2pm and where complimentary tea and coffee are served after dinner.
