The Witchery by the Castle is a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel, providing a sumptuous, extravagant Gothic experience. Each of the nine suites contains a selection of rooms, all decorated in a glamorously Gothic style. Expect suits of armor, hidden doors, dark and vibrant hues and opulent furnishings — no two rooms are the same and each suite is almost theatrically decorated to the highest standards. The Witchery is ideally located on the Royal Mile, just below the castle. Four suites are above the restaurant itself, while the other five are in a building just across the road. All can only be accessed by a narrow, winding staircase, which serves to enhance the medieval experience of staying here.
This is a very individual property, with some of the most exciting and opulent rooms we’ve ever seen.

Rooms
There are just nine suites at the Witchery, each with a slightly different theme. They’re all decorated to the highest levels of luxury and contain a series of rooms rather than just a bedroom and bathroom. Many have fireplaces, hidden doors or suits of armor, and most have four-poster beds. The bathrooms all have separate baths and showers, and feature tiled floors, split levels or roll top baths.
Location
The Witchery is located just below Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile, away from the noise of the main bars and restaurants. Although difficult to access by car at times, its central location makes it an ideal place from where to explore the city.
Food and drink
The Witchery is one of the most highly acclaimed restaurants in Edinburgh, and it’s essential to book for lunch or dinner. The main Witchery dining room is decorated in a dark, intimate Gothic style, while the Secret Garden dining room is a larger, lighter space and includes a covered courtyard.
Facilities and activities
As this is a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel, there are no facilities beyond those in the suites and the restaurant.
