Situated on a sprawling vineyard in the Maldonado region, the Sacromonte Landscape Hotel is a modern retreat for wine lovers. It was designed to disappear into its rugged surroundings thanks to its mirrored façade, which helps the rectangular structures blend into the surrounding landscape, keeping the focus on the rustic scenery. The green roofs make the exterior undetectable even from above.
Light oak panels and dark stone floors create a minimalist palette that doesn’t distract from the views outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. With an extreme focus on sustainability, local materials were sourced for construction, electric cars are used for transportation, they utilize an eco-friendly waste treatment system, and obtain drinking water from a natural spring on the property.
This hotel is the perfect place to unplug and immerse yourself in nature, enjoy locally sourced wine and cuisine, and remove yourself from the noise of the outside world.
We consider this a special stay at a vineyard due to the hotel's exceptional detail in combining the landscape, nature, wine, gastronomy and design. The owner shows a commitment to sustainability without sacrificing on comfort. It is luxurious in its simplicity, and rustic in the sense that all you need to enjoy your stay here is sunshine, wine, fresh meals and the rolling hills of Uruguay.

Rooms
The property consists of a winery and 13 luxury cabins. Each cabin has a private terrace with circular small pool overlooking the rolling hills of Sierras de Carape, a built-in reading nook and daybed that can double as an extra bed for kids, and a fireplace powered by eucalyptus logs, a rapidly renewable resource in the area. Despite the minimalist esthetics, the cabins all contain a kitchen area with a mini fridge, two electric burners, a small oven, and an electric kettle. You even have the benefit of an electric golf cart for the duration of your stay. Rain or shine, enjoy the views of the changing landscapes from your living area or private terrace with a bottle of Tannat wine.
Location
The lodge lies 2.5 hours from the capital city Montevideo, 60 minutes inland from the beaches of Punta del Este, and just 20 minutes from the popular Villa Eden, home to olive groves and grape vineyards. For a relatively flat country, Sacromonte nestles into Uruguay’s hilly countryside landscapes, where guests can hike through grassy meadows and brookside walking trails during their stay.
Food and drink
The property consists of 250 idyllic acres which allows Sacromonte to grow their own wine and much of their own produce in their farm-to-table restaurant. Breakfast is always included at the lodge, and guests have the option to purchase lunches and dinners, including a traditional Uruguayan asado of lamb or wild boar, and all meals are made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients with organic wine pairings.
Facilities and activities
Relaxation should be an important part of your stay with such beautiful surroundings, but the grounds themselves are host to hiking and walking trails, a swimming pond, horseback riding and a garden for foraging. The lodge can arrange visits to local vineyards, and if you have a rental car you can spend the day at the beach just an hour’s drive away. While on the premises, all guests have the benefit of an electric golf cart to roam around for the duration of your stay, but due to its location there is no Wi-Fi available on the property.
