Dating back to 1903, this secluded ranch was designed to complement the beauty of its natural surroundings, seamlessly blending rustic authenticity with stylish cabin-style accommodation. The property is set on the banks of the Colorado River, among towering rock formations. Its rooms have views over the water or across to Professor Valley and La Sal Mountains, some from a private patio or balcony.
During your stay, you can head out to explore the Canyonlands and Arches national parks, then, enjoy relaxing back at the ranch. Enjoy a spa treatment, take a dip in the pool, play tennis or lawn games or go horse riding. Classic American dishes are served in the River Grill restaurant, while the riverside bar also offers early evening tapas.
A true oasis in the desert, Sorrel River Ranch offers a blissfully green retreat from the hot, red sandstone sculptures that dwarf the surrounding landscape. We love the wide range of activities available here, alongside the rustic cabin feel of its rooms.

Rooms
The cabin-style studios and suites are spacious and well appointed, with views either to the Colorado River, or Professor Valley and La Sal Mountains. Private patios or balconies give you a space where you can sit out and take in your natural surroundings. Wood is used a lot in the decor to create the feeling of a traditional cabin, yet the white walls and large picture windows keep them light and airy. They each come with a large double or two smaller double beds, though the two-floor family suites have two separate sleeping areas with a large double and two smaller double beds, as well as two bathrooms. All rooms come with a good range of amenities, including a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, a minibar and a kitchenette with dining area.
Location
Sandwiched between rust-red rock formations and the Colorado River, the property embraces the great outdoors. You'll find it situated off the scenic Highway 128, which follows the Colorado River out of Moab — roughly a 40-minute drive away. From here, you have easy access to both Canyonlands and Arches national parks.
Food and drink
Fresh, seasonal dishes are served in the River Grill restaurant, with some ingredients picked from the property's own garden. There are few dining options in the vicinity, so we recommend making advance reservations to dine here. While the menu here is on the pricey side, the food is of an excellent quality, and you have views across the Colorado River as you dine. There's also a bar that serves fresh coffee in the morning and alcoholic beverages in the evening.
Families
The spacious family suites span two floors and have both a large double and two smaller double beds, as well as two bathrooms and a kitchenette. The resort also offers a wide range of ball games, smores toasting in the evening, lawn games and even has its own petting zoo where children aged 12 and under can enjoy complimentary pony rides.
Facilities and activities
The ranch offers a wide range of activities for when you're not out exploring the nearby national parks. There's a petting zoo complete with chickens, goats, pot-bellied pigs, miniature horses and rabbits, as well as stables where you can assist the wranglers in caring for the property's horses. You can also go horse riding in the local area (additional cost). Equipment for lawn games such as badminton and croquet is provided, as well as for volleyball, tennis, basketball and football. To relax, indulge in a spa treatment or take a dip in the outdoor pool.Â
