Your grand Alaska adventure begins in Fairbanks. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure and meet your expedition leader at a welcome dinner this evening with an orientation of the adventure to come. This is a small group tour and there will be a maximum of 14 people.
-
This morning your group will drive south through boreal forest along the Nenana River to Denali National Park, one of the world's greatest wilderness preserves. At the park entrance, you board a chartered helicopter for a spectacular aerial journey to your lodge, isolated in a vast expanse of wilderness. This is an experience few visitors get. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the lodge and keeping an eye out for wildlife.
-
A host of activities awaits from your base at the lodge, offering a chance to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area, the pioneers who mined for gold nearby, and the Athabascan people. Take a hike in search of wildlife with your tour leader, paddle a kayak on Wonder Lake with Mount Denali in the background, or try your hand at fishing. Return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and campfire.
-
After a relaxing morning soaking up the nature in Denali, you depart the lodge and fly back to the park entrance via a chartered helicopter. You then board a spacious mini-bus for your journey to Anchorage, stopping in the rustic town of Talkeetna. Enjoy the views of Cook Inlet and the glacier-crowned peaks of the Chugach Range as you arrive in Anchorage. You have the evening at leisure to explore.
-
As you travel toward Seward in a private dome car, experience the most scenic section of the historic Alaska Railroad. Look for beluga whales in the Turnagain Arm and keep an eye out for tidal bores. Once in the harbor, look out for sea otters as you board a boat to private Fox Island on the edge of Kenai Fjords National Park. The isolated location, fronting a wild, pebble beach backdropped by mountains, reveals the pristine side of Alaska most visitors miss. Your sea kayaking expedition this afternoon is likely to reveal some of the area's prolific marine life.
-
Memorable images of Alaska are on display today from your private chartered boat as you explore a marine realm where vestiges of the Ice Age linger. The small vessel allows the group to approach wildlife at a close range, and Kenai Fjords provides excellent opportunities for viewing humpback whales, orcas, sea lions and puffins.
-
After your last morning on serene Fox Island, board your private boat for the journey up Resurrection Bay to Seward for lunch and a chance to visit the Alaska SeaLife Center dedicated to marine research and education. From Seward, head south on the scenic road to Homer, following the route along turquoise Skilak Lake. In Homer, you'll be staying on the very tip of Homer Spit, also known as the halibut fishing capital of the world.
-
Explore the abundant waters and striking scenery of Kachemak Bay on a private boat cruise today. The bay is transformed daily by some of the biggest tidal fluctuations in the world, and is home not only to coveted sports fish but otters, seals, orcas and whales. Cross the bay to Seldovia and go ashore for lunch and a walk around the tiny town that's only accessed by boat or air. Here you'll meet a member of the Seldovia Tribe to learn about their unique culture. Late in the afternoon, return by boat to Homer to enjoy free time on the spit.
-
From Homer, fly across Cook Inlet to King Salmon to a classic Alaskan lodge on the Kaknek River, offering a comfortable base for wilderness bear viewing in nearby Katmai National Park. After dropping off luggage, take a floatplane to the park where you'll have access to Brooks Falls, one of the best places to view brown bears in their natural habitat. From the safety of platforms built over the falls, get a close look at the bears standing in the rushing white water, jaws snapping, trying to catch the leaping salmon. In the evening, return to King Salmon by floatplane or water taxi for the night.
-
Katmai is home to the world's largest population of these fascinating creatures, with more than 2,000 inside the park. Enjoy another day's bear viewing at Brooks Falls from the platforms today. You will break for lunch at Brooks Lodge, an easy walk from the falls. Make the most of your time and learn all about these animals from your Expedition Leader.
-
After a last round of bear viewing in the Brooks Falls region, fly back to King Salmon and onwards to Homer in the afternoon. On the final evening with your group, celebrate your adventures at a festive farewell dinner.
-
