Named after the Choctaw Indian word meaning 'happy home,' the Anchuca is one of the most prestigious antebellum homes in Vicksburg and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in the heart of the city's historic district, Anchuca was built in 1830 and served as a shelter for those who had suffered through the Siege of Vicksburg in the American Civil War.
With just three rooms in the main house, a further four in the carriage house and the courtyard suite, the property retains a particularly intimate feel for those fortunate enough to stay here. Each room is beautifully appointed and named after a former owner or member of the family; offering free Wi-Fi access, cable TV and private bathrooms. Anchuca has a library bar and café (open Wednesday to Saturday only) serving seasonal Southern fare, as well as an outdoor pool in its attractive grounds. Please note that the Carriage House rooms are located in a separate building to the main house.
You will feel right at home in this beautiful inn, with its wonderful service and hearty Southern breakfasts. Anchuca oozes small town charm and is in a prime location for exploring Vicksburg.
