The family-owned Monteleone towers over the French Quarter, enticing visitors to its outstanding restaurant and infamous Carousel Bar & Lounge, which is also New Orleans’ only rotating bar. This illustrious hotel has played host to many famous southern American writers, the most notable of whom have inspired their own suites.
With its grand exterior, fascinating history and well-appointed guest rooms, the hotel is a classy place to stay while you explore this vibrant city.
An exciting hotel in the heart of the action, the Monteleone has a real 'New Orleans' feel, and is a distinguished historical landmark with a brilliantly restored modern interior. The hotel is busy and exciting, so not recommended for those looking for a quiet retreat. However, the hustle and bustle is well managed by professional staff.

Rooms
The hotel offers two room classes, Traditional or Preferred, with the only difference being the room size. Both have either one king or two queen beds and views of either the French Quarter or the Mississippi River. There are five Luxury Suite types, each offering views across New Orleans and extensive living space, while the five Literary Suites are named after famous southern writers who have stayed at the hotel. These are even more spacious and decorated in an elegant style with chandeliers, sofas and marble and granite bathrooms.
Location
Hotel Monteleone is conveniently located for exploring the French Quarter, close to Jackson Square and just two minutes’ walk from the buzz of Bourbon Street. However, the hotel, sat two blocks away on Royal Street, is far enough away from the hustle and bustle to avoid the noise. Many of the area’s top restaurants and bars are mere moments from the hotel, and the mighty Mississippi River's banks are a short ten-minute stroll away.
Food and drink
The hotel restaurant, Criollo, is a perfect example of fine dining in the heart of New Orleans, with a fresh menu and popular seafood options. Adjacent to the restaurant is the famous Carousel Bar & Lounge, a circular revolving bar which completes a full rotation every 15 minutes. The atmosphere of Carousel is complemented by fabulous cocktails — the Pimms is a particular highlight.
Facilities and activities
The Monteleone offers a fully-equipped gym, which is adjacent to a heated rooftop pool complete with full bar service and astounding views over the city. Room service operates 24 hours a day, and the hotel’s Spa Aria is first class.
