Bassac on the Mekong

Cruise Ships in Vietnam : Bassac

Converted from traditional rice barges, there are three vessels in the Bassac fleet. Each boat offers characterful accommodation as you explore the natural beauty of the Mekong Delta. Bassac’s two newer vessels have still been built in a traditional style, giving them an air of authenticity, and while they are larger than the original R/V Bassac I they offer similar amenities.

These beautifully crafted wooden boats, built over two or three decks, offer the style and elegance of traditional rice barges typical to the Mekong Delta. While their facilities may be simple compared to other cruise options in the Delta, they are ideal if you are looking to immerse yourself in local culture and traditions.

Cruising through the heart of the Delta, you’ll have the opportunity to explore on smaller boats, stopping to walk around local villages and learn about the villagers’ way of life; such as how they grow rice, fruit and vegetables. You will also visit cottage industries, as well as the floating markets that form the lifeblood of the region. Without doubt, this is one of the most characterful and authentic ways to explore this fascinating region of Southern Vietnam.

Cabins

The original RV Bassac I has six en suite cabins for up to 12 guests, each with air conditioning and either twin or double beds. Located at the front of the main deck, they are furnished entirely in wood. Bassac II and III both offer 12 double or twin en suite cabins for up to 24 guests, offering the same amenities as Bassac I’s cabins.
