Gonarezhou National Park is located in the south-eastern corner of Zimbabwe in a lowveld region of sandstone cliffs, scrub and baobabs.

Elephants on the Save river bed in Gonarezhou National Park, ZimbabweThe park's huge Chilojo Cliffs can be seen for miles around. The park borders both the Kruger in South Africa and Limpopo National Park in Mozambique allowing the wildlife to roam freely over a huge area. The game in Gonarezhou is supported by three major rivers, the Mwenezi, Save and Runde, which wind through the semi-arid scrublands attracting large elephant herds, varied plains game and birdlife.

The reserve did suffer through Zimbabwe’s turbulence and although elephant populations have remained strong the game can be skittish. As well as elephant the park is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and many antelope species. The rivers have a variety of fish species and there are several hundred bird species.
