Dating back to 1888, Hotel del Coronado's impressive wooden façade and signature red roof turrets give it an iconic presence on Coronado Beach Island.
This grand property preserves elegance throughout with tasteful modern touches of the southern Californian coastal lifestyle. Set within landscaped gardens, guests can enjoy an extensive range of recreational activities or relax on the white sands of the hotel’s secluded beach.
We think this hotel is a good choice for those wanting to combine a beach holiday with an exploration of San Diego. Despite its ageing imperfections, Del retains its original charm and luxurious elegance, upholding its reputation for being one of the most beautiful, historic hotels and beach resorts in the southwest US.

Rooms
The hotel is spread over seven floors and offers hundreds of rooms, ranging from rooms and suites to junior suites and beach village units. Due to the vast size and age of the property, the layout, size and decor of rooms varies throughout. The property is split into three sections, the old Victorian main building where traditional rooms are smaller in size in contrast to those in the Ocean Towers and California Cabanas which are more spacious and modern. We recommend that you request an ocean view when booking.
Location
Coronado’s coastline offers fantastic surfing and ocean views making this a good choice for those seeking both recreational activities and relaxation.
Just a short drive across the Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego, guests can also visit the nearby attractions such as Balboa Park, the zoo or trendy Gaslamp Quarter.
Food and drink
With shops and several onsite dining establishments, guests have a variety of dining options. Its signature restaurant, 1500 OCEAN, offers a fine dining experience and serves seafood against the ocean backdrop. For a lavish Sunday brunch, the Crown Room offers international cuisine and regionally inspired dishes and seafood. Popular choices with families are ENO’s, specialising in wood fired pizza, and Moo Time Creamery, an authentic 1950s ice cream parlour. At night, enjoy an evening cocktail at the Sunset Bar or toast s’mores around glowing beach fire pits.
Families
‘Kidtopia’ is the kids’ camp offering a fun and stimulating range of games, adventure sports featuring Kids' Olympics, a scavenger hunt and arts and crafts sessions for 4 to 12 year olds. A highlight for most children are the evening adventure trips and excursions, all unique in theme, ranging from pirate maps and lost treasures to tent city, cooking, dinosaur digs and Tahitian nights.
For 13 to 17 year olds, the Coast Club Teen Lounge ‘Vibz’, is an area dedicated exclusively to teenagers. This hang-out offers foosball, billiards, darts, computers and movie-time. There is also the opportunity to take tuition in tennis, kayaking, biking and surfing. 15 to 18 year olds can also relax at the hotel spa with three special packages designed with them in mind.
On Tuesday evenings, families can share an innertube for ‘dive-in’ movies in the pool during the summer months. There’s also a private beach bonfire ‘Roast’ complete with s’mores and Ghirardelli chocolate.

The resort offers a range of leisure facilities including two main pools with cabanas, plunge pools and the beach village where guests can join spin classes, yoga and golf. Bikes are available for hire as well as paddle and boogie boards, volleyballs, surfboards and wetsuits. Private surfing lessons are available.
