Wuksachi Lodge, Sequoia National Park

Wuksachi Lodge

Sequoia National Park, The USA

Affording excellent views of the High Sierra Mountains and surrounding forest, the lodge is beautifully crafted from cedar wood and stone. Whilst it's careful to maintain the feel of an authentic lodge, with stuffed bears and classic lumberjack kitsch embellishing the lodge's communal areas, it's equipped with all the amenities found in a modern hotel.

The on site dining is among the best in the park and the lodge's secluded location provides guests with stunning views of Whitney Mountain, framed by Sequoia’s beautiful foliage.

OUR OPINION:

As with most national park accommodation, Wuksachi Lodge is simple and comfortable with a rustic charm, and its location is perfect. Food at the lodge isn't exceptional, but its availability is convenient at the start or end of a busy day.

Rooms

Rooms are located in three separate buildings set slightly away from the main building. The Standard rooms come with either one or two queen sized beds, although those with just one bed also have a pull-out sofa bed. Deluxe rooms are slightly larger and come with either a king sized bed or two queen sized beds, with the former also featuring a pull-out sofa bed. These are also large enough to fit in an additional rollaway bed or cot, accommodating a maximum of five guests. Superior rooms are the most spacious option and come with one king sized bed and two queen sized beds, as well as a sofa bed and separate seating area.

All rooms feature a natural decor using granite, oak, cedar and hickory. Amenities include en suite bathrooms, TVs, hair dryers, minibars, coffee makers and ski racks, as well as central heating.

Location

Surrounded by towering sequoia trees, stunning waterfalls and picturesque valleys in the heart of the Sequoia National Park, Wuksachi Lodge enjoys a prime location just minutes from the area's most popular visitor attractions; including the Giant Forest Grove of the Big Trees, Giant Forest Museum & Wolverton Recreation Area and Big Trees Trail. While there are few facilities in the local area, the lodge does have its own cocktail lounge, restaurant and shops for both ski equipment and gifts.

Food and drink

Offering simple breakfast, lunch and dinner options, the lodge's on site restaurant is one of the best places to dine in the national park, serving ‘Sierra Alpine’ rustic cuisine in generous portions.

Facilities and activities

There's an on site gift and ski shop, and the lodge is close to the area's main attractions and trails, including the General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest Museum. One of the most spectacular views within Sequoia is from the top of Moro Rock, which is approximately two miles from Wuksachi village. A 400-step granite staircase leads to a stunning 360 degree view of the southern Sierra Nevada mountains. The hotel can provide packed lunches to take with you on your hikes, or you can use the local shops to buy breakfast or lunch provisions. Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas of the lodge, but it can be limited.

Accessibility

Please note that the rooms are situated on a hillside up several steps and/or a ramp, which may be problematic if you have large or heavy luggage. If you require assistance, please ask at reception when you check in.
