Rooms

All rooms benefit from open living spaces, island-inspired decor and native Hawaiian art, featuring their own furnished lanai (balcony or terrace) looking across the ocean, golf course, pool area and/or landscaped grounds. All rooms are en suite and come with an interactive flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi access, tea and coffee maker and MP3 docking station. Some also feature an outdoor lava rock shower extending from the bathroom.

Location

Located on the northwest of the island, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is a convenient 15-minute drive from Kona International Airport. The resort is surrounded by golf courses but also houses its own on-site course — the well-known, Jack Nicklaus Signature Hualalai Golf Course. The relatively small size of the island means that, assuming you have the use of a hire car, anywhere is within a two-hour drive.

Food and drink

There are three restaurants and two ocean-side lounges. Food is sourced locally and menus change with the seasons. The Beach Tree offers Italian cuisine with Californian and tropical touches while the 'ULU Ocean Grill offers fresh dishes straight from the ocean or local farms. If classic American steak dishes are to your taste, then sample the Hualalai Grille.

Families

The list of onsite family-friendly activities is extensive. From basketball to treasure hunts, movies to Hawaiian arts, crafts and games, there is something to keep the children busy and entertained every day. Once the sun starts to set, the whole family can sit back and enjoy the sights, sounds and flavours of a traditional lūʻau (feast), which is held weekly within the resort — a perfect way to absorb Hawaiian culture.

Facilities and activities

The resort features plenty of facilities with seven swimming areas, including a lava rock saltwater snorkelling pool where you can get close to sea life, quieter, adult-only pools, and a main activity pool that is popular with families. There are eight tennis courts, a fitness studio, an expansive spa with whirlpool, sauna and steam room, and the Jack Nicklaus Signature Hualalai Golf Course. You can also take lessons on learning the Hawaiian language, ukulele playing, hula dancing, lei making and other crafts.

Accessibility

There are a number of rooms and suites that are wheelchair accessible and have features that are helpful for disabled guests and those that are hard of hearing, such as grab handles in the bathroom and door knock and smoke alarm alert lights.

Environmental and social responsibility

The Four Seasons Hualalai has an island conscious way of thinking from its responsibly sourced food and water, refillable bathroom amenities, a three-day rule on bed linen (unless requested) and its support of The Marine Mammal Center’s Hawaiian Monk Seal Hospital.

Spa Facilities

The Hualalai Spa combines tropical gardens with cool interior spaces for a distinctly Hawaiian feel. Relax by a quiet stream in the open-air Waiea (Water of Life) garden or savour the lap pool, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms and cold plunges, all set amidst lush greenery. Your choice of massage and body treatments may be enjoyed outdoors in the exotic new hales, secluded for privacy or in your room.
