This uniquely designed lodge has been built to take advantage of the incredible views overlooking the sweeping floodplain. The rooms themselves have been entirely constructed from the local sand and plastered, creating a natural barrier to the summer heat. The heart of the lodge features a number of places in which to relax, with lovely views over the river. There's also a small swimming pool to cool off in after a dusty game drive, while at night guests can take a seat in front of the fire, with subtle lighting provided by solar-powered lanterns.
The guides at the lodge are all qualified Botswana Professional Safari Guides and their intimate knowledge of the local flora and fauna will ensure that you get the most from your game drives.
This is a small, comfortable camp with fantastic views, a sound ecological footprint and a fabulous location just outside the entrance to Chobe National Park with its abundant game viewing opportunities.

Rooms
A fairly small number of chalets provide accommodation at the camp, each with comfortable twin or double beds and private verandas boasting views over the Chobe River. In addition, there's a family unit consisting of two separate bedrooms connected through a shared lounge. The rooms themselves are all simply decorated in a rustic style but are comfortable, using furniture made from sustainable or reclaimed wood, with the emphasis being on the location rather than luxury. Each room has a tastefully fitted bathroom with copper basins as well as both an indoor and outdoor shower.
Location
On the western side of Chobe National Park, close to the Namibian border, this lodge can be accessed from the access road through Chobe National Park and is a short distance from the small town of Kasane.
Food and drink
Dining at the camp is a sociable affair, food is fresh and prepared on site by the very capable chef. The dining area is found in the main open-plan area, with views across the river.
Families
Families are welcome at the lodge and family accommodation is available.
Facilities and activities
Activities focus on game viewing in the surrounding area by vehicle and boat, and you can also visit a local village during your stay. Excursions to Victoria Falls can also be arranged. Facilities on site include a swimming pool, open-plan lounge area and reading corner, with a viewing deck looking onto a private waterhole providing guests with further wildlife viewing opportunities.
Environmental and social responsibility
The initial idea of using bags of local sand to build the lodge came about while looking for a solution to the temperature extremes of the local area. By using these sandbags, there's no cement production and the content of the sandbags is found on site, so there was no need to use trucks to import bricks. All of the furniture in the lodge was made on site using sustainable or reclaimed wood. Power is predominantly solar or low watt LED lights and the insulation of the sand means there's no need for powerful air conditioners. The camp also has its own above ground sewage treatment plant to ensure no pollutants enter the water table. All resulting rubbish from the camp is also carefully separated and disposed of in a waste disposal plant.
