Montra Nivesha

Montra Nivesha

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Built in the style of a traditional Khmer home and set around a peaceful swimming pool, the Montra Nivesha's small number of rooms allows it to benefit from a more personal feel than many of the larger properties in the area.

Designed in teak and furnished with Khmer artifacts, the serene ambiance is complemented by the attentive and friendly staff. The restaurant serves some of the best fish amok in Cambodia, while the pool and spa offer a welcome respite from a day exploring temples in the tropical heat.

OUR OPINION:

A perennial favorite of Audley's, the Montra Nivesha is a welcoming locally-owned and run property that provides excellent value for money. While some of the rooms are a little dark, all are comfortable and well-equipped.

Rooms

The property has four different room and suite types. Superior Rooms are on the ground floor and have twin beds. We'd recommend Deluxe Rooms if you'd prefer a bit more space, most of which are found on the first floor, with two more connecting rooms on the ground floor. The Studio Suite is the largest option, featuring two queen size beds and space for additional beds for those traveling with children. Meanwhile, the Alaya Suite has a touch more luxury and is ideally suited to couples, with a four-poster bed and a welcoming bathtub setting it apart.

All rooms feature complimentary Wi-Fi, TVs, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms, with all but the Alaya Suite featuring showers only. They're each decorated with Cambodian artifacts and photographs from the country's French colonial era.

Location

Nestled among residential buildings on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle of the town center, the property is just a short ride by bicycle or tuk-tuk to the popular Pub Street or central market.

Food and drink

The Reahoo Restaurant here is one of our recommended spots for trying some wonderful Khmer cuisine. Under the Khmer-style wooden sala you can discover a wide range of superbly cooked local dishes or any of the international fare also offered. The property can also arrange unique private dining experiences at the temples or at its own remote countryside residence. Meanwhile, Asura Bar and Lounge serves delicious cocktails and other beverages.

Families

A family-friendly property, children can be accommodated comfortably in the Deluxe Rooms and the two suites. Though there are no specific children’s activities or facilities other than the pool, the staff will go out of their way to ensure your children are made to feel welcome.

Honeymooners

If you're looking to celebrate a special occasion then the private dining experiences are ideal, providing an intimate evening meal at a private location at one of the smaller temple sites or in a traditional Khmer house in the country. Honeymooners can also enjoy a special 'his ‘n’ hers' spa package.

Facilities and activities

The small spa offers a wide range of treatments and packages to suit everyone. There are also two small pools, which aren't big enough for swimming but are wonderful little oases for cooling off after a day at the temples.

Environmental and social responsibility

At Montra Nivesha you can drink water from the tap — it's the first hotel in Cambodia to offer this. The property also provides reusable bottles to help reduce single-use plastic under the 'refill not landfill' initiative. A stay at Montra Nivesha also helps the local community via Yosothor and the Hanuman Foundation, which supports local charities and arts.
