Hotel Vigna Magica

Hotel Vigna Magica

Piedmont, Italy

Overlooking the Langhe hills, a UNESCO-protected landscape home to Barolo wine, the Hotel Vigna Magica is surrounded by acres and acres of vineyards allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the wine region as well as the serenity of the countryside.

The hotel is part of the large Fontanafredda estate with the rooms located on the floors above the Fontanafredda wine shop, offering guests a convenient location for wine tastings and guided visits to the vineyards.

The hotel’s quirky design is sleek, modern and spacious and the 14 rooms are similarly styled but understated and refined. With large windows or terraces letting in plenty of natural light, simple furnishings and exclusive fabrics, the restrained decor gives a calm and soothing atmosphere.

Breakfast is served by the Michelin-starred chef with all recipes following the ethos of the Slow Food movement, using only high-quality, local products including vegetables and eggs right from the estate. Once you’ve had time to soak up the surroundings, you can walk in the ‘Wood of Thoughts’, see centuries-old vineyards and hazelnut trees, or venture further afield to Alba or Bra, both of which are just a short drive away.

OUR OPINION:

We particularly like the Hotel Vigna Magica for its central location in the Piedmontese countryside between Alba and Bra where guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of the open vineyards, or venture into the nearby villages for a livelier atmosphere.

Rooms

The 14 rooms and suites at the Hotel Vigna Magica are calm and understated with decor that is sleek, stylish and extremely comfortable. Each room has different shades of pillows and bed covers to distinguish between them and most offer views of the vineyards from the windows, terrace or balcony. The large, bright bathrooms have spacious walk-in showers and, in the suites, deep, freestanding baths. All rooms have complimentary internet connection, air conditioning and a stay includes a gourmet breakfast.

Location

The hotel is set in the Langhe hills, a UNESCO-protected landscape, and surrounded by vineyards. It sits on the same estate as the well-known and respected Fontanafredda Winery and wine shop, and a number of restaurants. Alba, capital of the regional wine industry, is 15 minutes away by taxi, while Bra can be reached in 20 minutes.

Food and drink

In 1960 when the Guido Restaurant first opened, it was well ahead of the culinary times, championing traditional dishes and local produce but offering a lighter more contemporary version of regional recipes. Today, the ethos is the same, and the restaurant has gained a Michelin star for its attention to detail and innovative cuisine. It is set in the historic Villa Reale in the same complex at the Fontanafredda, its original features contrasting with its contemporary style.

Facilities and activities

Visit the Fontanafredda Winery for an opportunity to experience and taste the world-renowned wines produced in the region.
