Your driver and guide will pick you up at your Lisbon hotel on the morning of the tour and head south to the Arrábida area, about an hour’s drive from Lisbon.
Your first stop will be Palmela, where you’ll get dramatic views of the Bay of Setúbal from a viewpoint next to a 12th-century castle. Continuing through the countryside you’ll visit Azeitão where you’ll tour a family-run winery to visit the vineyards, learn about local wine-making techniques and have a tasting of a selection of red, white and fortified wines.
Once you’ve finished your tasting, you’ll move on to the port town of Setúbal with its historic old town and hilltop fortress. You’ll have some free time to explore the waterfront and enjoy lunch (not included) at one of the many restaurants. The town is renowned for its excellent seafood and it’s a good place to try the local speciality choco frito (deep-fried cuttlefish).
After lunch you’ll drive to the expansive Parque Nacional da Arrábida, home to an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna, and a protectorate of a rare Mediterranean shrub ecosystem. After meandering through the park to various panoramic viewpoints you’ll continue down the coast to Cabo Espichel, a headland known for its towering cliffs. From the viewpoint here you’ll get unspoiled views of the Atlantic and the indented coastline.
As your day draws to a close, you’ll make a stop in Sesimbra to take in its medieval Moorish castle and relax with a cup of coffee as you admire the turquoise water and fine sands, before returning to Lisbon.
