Far View Lodge, Mesa Verde National Park

Far View Lodge

Mesa Verde National Park, The US

This is the only hotel located within the national park itself and is perfectly positioned for taking guided tours of the 1,000 year old Puebloan ruins. The lodge offers few distractions from the picturesque surroundings, with no mobile signal and all electricity in the rooms on a timer, allowing you to become truly immersed in the area's natural beauty.

All rooms feature a private balcony from which to enjoy the scenery. The lobby and dining room feature traditional Western-style decor and colorful Native American artwork, while the award-winning menu served in the Metate Room is inspired by regional heritage ingredients. There's also the Far View Lounge, offering a bar service and TV.

OUR OPINION:

Far View Lodge is rustic and simple, but is spectacularly located. Although the dining options may be limited in this remote corner of Colorado, the standards are still high. Rooms are small, but the lodge is ideal for exploring Mesa Verde National Park and is a great place to relax, dine and unwind after a day in the park.

Rooms

Accommodation is split between the entry level Kiva rooms, which have air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and private balconies, and Kiva Deluxe View rooms, which offer the same facilities but boast unrivaled views across the vast American west landscape and out to the horizon. Sit on your private balcony and look out for wildlife using the complimentary binoculars, and as night falls gaze up at the starry skies. Amenities in all rooms include coffee makers, fridges, hair dryers and en suite bathrooms.

Location

Situated 15 miles (24 kilometers) within the park, this hotel is at a high elevation, hence the dramatic views and convenient access to the museum and guided tours. The remote location is peaceful and you have sufficient facilities within the hotel to enjoy a short stay.

Food and drink

The Metate Restaurant offers an à la carte menu from 5pm each day, featuring wholesome Western food. A more casual experience is offered at Far View Terrace Café, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves a hot and cold buffet. The Spruce Tree Terrace is open during the day (seasonal) for light meals and snacks and there's a coffee shop serving Starbucks coffee.

Families

Both room categories offer King and two Queen options which can fit two adults and two children. There are limited connecting rooms and these cannot be guaranteed. Rooms offer direct access to the car park and balconies are not suitable for smaller children.

Facilities and activities

Staff at the property's front desk will be happy to book tours for you and offer advice on where to visit. A museum is located nearby, and there's a gift shop within the lobby offering souvenirs and basic toiletries.

The 700 Years Tour is guided by a ranger on a bus and departs from the lodge's reception. The tour takes four hours and does include some walking, including steps. We recommend booking in advance with your specialist if you'd like to do this.

Accessibility

Rooms are spread out, so some will be a walk from the reception area and restaurant. Some of the rooms are ADA compliant, and you can park directly at your door to make it easier carrying luggage. Some bathrooms are small, and not all of them feature a bath.

Environmental and social responsibility

In a drive to cut down on light pollution and protect the environment, as well as the nearby relics, the hotel is part of the Green Thread Environmental Program. The hotel aims to recycle as much as possible and some amenities, such as lights and water, operate on a timer.
