Acorn House

Cape Town, South Africa

Built in 1904, Acorn House is your peaceful haven away from the bustle of the city.

Between the gardens, sun deck, pool and veranda there are plenty of choices for sitting back and relaxing while taking in the stunning views. In the main hall you can help yourself to complimentary port and to the honesty bar, which are among the small touches that make you feel at home here. The current owners, Beate and Bernd, really enjoy their fine wines and have stocked their stores with a range of local bottles at affordable prices. They're happy to share their knowledge and recommendations, including their favourite wine farms that could inspire a visit.

OUR OPINION:

You鈥檒l enjoy the friendly ambiance at Acorn; it has an excellent standard of service designed to make you feel at home. The stunning backdrop of Table Mountain is also sure to impress.

Rooms

Each of the ten rooms has its own personality and they're named after the previous owners of this charming house. Whilst not huge, the rooms are furnished in a way that's in keeping with the pedigree of the house and offer comfortable beds with well-appointed en suite bathrooms. Facilities in the bedrooms include TVs, telephones, safe deposit boxes, hair dryers, toiletries and free Wi-Fi connection, which is available throughout the hotel. Rooms offer either twin beds or a queen size bed, and there are two family suites which include sleeper couches suitable for children up to the age of 12.

Location

Oranjezicht is a great location for Cape Town, combining peace and quiet within easy reach of the city centre. There's a weekly farmers' market held every Saturday at The Oranjezicht City Farm, a short distance from the hotel. The majority of the city attractions are a short drive from the hotel, or you can easily head over Table Mountain to the beaches of Camps Bay.

Food and drink

Breakfast includes a cold buffet of local meats and cheeses, fruit and vegetables. There's a range of hot options, including Cape Malay pancakes, all of which are served until 11am. The hotel doesn鈥檛 offer an evening dining option but the concierge is happy to point guests toward some of the city鈥檚 best eateries and help with travel arrangements to get you there. For wine lovers, the hotel stocks a good selection of white and red wines.聽

Families

Children over the age of two are welcome at Acorn House, but the hotel does reserve the right to limit the amount of children in residence at any one time. There are two private family suites available.

Facilities and activities

Services offered by the hotel include a laundry service, dry cleaning, luggage storage, babysitting/child services and the provision of newspapers. Free parking is available off site.
