Arrive by horse-drawn carriage to the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, an imposing Belle Époque building whose lobby glows with inlaid wood, brass accents and crystal chandeliers. Built in 1879, the hotel was the first in the resort town of Zermatt and forms the focal point of the car-free village.
The hotel offers old-fashioned service, including daily newspapers delivered to your room, round-the-clock room service and an excellent concierge. Since the hotel was built by the city’s burghers, the goal has been to create a five-star experience for all of its guests. While the Deluxe suites are obviously luxe, even the smallest double rooms are spacious, have marble bathrooms and offer views of either the Matterhorn or the town.
Three restaurants provide a wide selection of cuisine, including the fondue-focused saycheese!, the Swiss fine-dining Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni and the more relaxed Brasserie Lusi. The How Do You Do lounge offers light lunches, afternoon tea and cocktails in front of a fireplace, while The Stars Bar is a late-night destination with piano music and a starry, deep-blue ceiling.
The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof also offers a full-service spa, a cigar bar and a chance to visit the Lipizzaner horses in their on-site barn.
The Zermatterhof is the pinnacle of elegance, and its long history grants it a special place in the resort town. We love its wide range of restaurants, extensive spa and classically styled rooms.
