Remnants of the great Siamese kingdom of Ayudhya surround this intimate boutique hotel in Ayutthaya's old town. A great base from which to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a modern property yet still firmly rooted in its historic surroundings. The minimalist, contemporary decor is tempered by elements of traditional Thai design with intricately-carved wooden screens, arched doorways, hanging bird cages and ornate light fittings adding a touch of Asian style.
There are 14 rooms, each with its own design theme ranging from contemporary to North African and Thai. The decor is elegantly restrained with the simple styling making the most of the dramatic views of the temples and river.
Outside, small courtyards, lush planting and a generous swimming pool provide tranquil spots to relax. The hotel also offers complimentary bikes for guest use.
Although the hotel has no restaurant, it has a bright coffee shop and its central location means there are many dining options nearby. Service is friendly but efficient and the hotel sometimes hosts cultural events such as traditional music, yoga, meditation or talks on Siamese history to give guests a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural surroundings.
The hotel's restaurant overlooks the Ping River and is decorated in a vintage-inspired style but with an industrial edge showing through in the exposed ducts. The menu features a selection of Thai and Lanna (northern Thai) fusion cuisine as well as international dishes. Above it, a rooftop wine bar offers panoramic views of the city.
