Asilia Naboisho Camp

Asilia Naboisho Camp

Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Asilia Naboisho Camp is situated in the beautiful, unspoilt wilderness of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, offering high levels of service and an excellent location for game viewing; with the conservancy home to one of the highest population densities of lion in the world.

Small in size, the camp has an intimate and exclusive feel, which is furthered by the lack of other camps in the area. The thatched lounge and dining room offers views of the nearby waterhole, while guest tents are spacious and well-equipped, balancing authenticity with comfort. Whether you opt to unwind with a book in the lounge or head out on a game drive, the camp allows you to truly immerse yourself in the African bush.

OUR OPINION:

We think this is a fantastic small tented camp, where standards of guiding, service and food are excellent. The conservancy offers some amazing game viewing, which will only improve as it continues to develop.

Excellent

Rooms

Just a small number of spacious guest tents provide simple but comfortable accommodation. Each is designed with natural colours to blend into the surroundings and features an en suite bathroom with a hot shower and flushing toilet. Offering king sized or twin beds and lockable safes, each tent also boasts a private veranda where you can relax and enjoy views of the wild landscape. Electricity is solar powered with a back-up generator, and a laundry service is available. Some of the tents are larger to accommodate groups of friends or families, and a personal butler service is offered for each tent.

Location

The private Mara Naboisho Conservancy spans 210 square kilometres and is adjacent to the Masai Mara National Reserve, just 45 minutes from Mara Ol Seki airstrip. The conservancy has a higher game density than Masai Mara, with lion, elephant, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, wild dog and 266 bird species all regularly spotted on safaris. With few other camps in the conservancy, you can enjoy excellent game viewing in seclusion.

Food and drink

Tasty, home-cooked meals are served communally, creating a sociable atmosphere. A continental or full English breakfast buffet is provided each morning, while lunch buffets usually include salads. Alternatively, take a picnic breakfast or lunch with you on your game drives. Afternoon tea is served at 4pm each day, while dinner is a three-course, plated meal. Dietary requirements can be catered for if informed in advance.

Families

The family tents can accommodate a family of up to five. The camp offers a kids’ safari programme, including identifying animal tracks, learning about local cultures, guided nature walks and bush skill lessons. Children can also enjoy traditional games and visits to local schools, and guides will share their tales of bush life.

Facilities and activities

Activities from the camp include morning, afternoon and night game drives, guided walking safaris and cultural visits to a local Maasai village. Fly camping is offered in a quiet part of the conservancy, where you can enjoy meals cooked over the campfire and spend the night under the stars. Researchers working on one of the conservancy’s conservation research programmes are often able to come to the camp to talk about their work and findings.

Environmental and social responsibility

Asilia Africa helped to set up the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, which saw more than 500 Maasai landowners joining to contribute their land to conservation, resulting in the protection of 210 square kilometres of land and the creation of 142 jobs. Some of the guest fees from the camp are donated toward providing the local community with a sustainable livelihood and ensuring the conservation of wildlife in the area. Health care, environmentally-friendly energy, education and skills training are also provided for the local community, and the camp undertakes green practices such as rainwater and waste recycling.
