Temple House

Temple House

Sligo, Ireland

Owned and managed by the Perceval family for over 350 years, Temple House provides intimate stay in a Georgian manor home. The house is located on an expansive estate of manicured parkland overlooking a 13th-century lakeside castle, providing a quiet retreat that’s still just a 20-minute drive to the heart of Sligo city.

It’s apparent from your first moments that this isn’t a typical hotel. Guests are greeted with a warm welcome by Roderick and Helen Perceval and the lobby is decorated with family trinkets. The walls of the grand entrance are painted bright turquoise, elaborately trimmed and lined with gold-framed pictures. The seven guest rooms vary in shape, design, and decor, but include modern amenities and bathrooms that date back to 1864. There are no TVs in the rooms to contribute to a relaxing stay.

There’s no formal restaurant at the manor house, but Temple House offers a four-course dinner menu that spotlights locally sourced ingredients. A communal dining space at the large mahogany table encourages guests to interact with one another while still offering an intimate evening.

OUR OPINION:

Falling somewhere between a hotel and a B&B, this intimate manor house offers plenty of personality and a sense of rural quietude, all just a short drive from the city.

Rooms

The seven guest rooms are all slightly different, thanks to the nature of Georgian architecture, but feature traditional decor and large windows with views of the lake or garden. The bathrooms all date back to the 1860s and still boast some of the original features, thought they’ve been updated to provide modern comforts. All rooms have standard amenities including VOYA organic toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, and hair dryers. There are no TVs in the rooms, encouraging guests to unplug and enjoy nature although Wi-Fi is available.
